About the Port of New Orleans: The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) is a self-sustaining political subdivision of Louisiana that contributes significantly to the state's maritime and hospitality sectors without relying on state tax revenue. Annually, Port NOLA generates over $100 million from diverse operations including cargo (container and breakbulk), rail, cruises, and industrial real estate. Its strategic Mississippi River location provides access to 14,500 miles of inland waterways and the Gulf of Mexico, connecting to over 30 major inland hubs. A key advantage is direct access to six Class I railroads via the New Orleans Public Belt (NOPB), a Port NOLA-owned Class III switching railroad that offers competitive switching services to the Port, its rail partners, and local industries.
