The Position
The Human Resources & Administrative Director is responsible for working with the Executive Director to plan, lead, develop, implement, direct, and staff the Human Resources (HR) function at the Port of Olympia, and to provide management of Administrative (A) operations. The HRA Director ensures legal compliance with all applicable personnel, labor and workforce requirements, and is instrumental in working collaboratively to develop and maintain a positive workplace culture and environment. The HRA Director works to implement the Port’s overall mission by connecting strategic direction with operational requirements through the management of sound and efficient processes. Responsibilities generally include oversight and management of human resources activities, information technology systems, public records management, and certain general administration functions.

The HRA Director reports to the Executive Director, regularly works collaboratively with colleagues, and directly supervises the Human Resources Manager. The HRA Director routinely engages with Port directors, senior managers and staff in support of the “One Port” philosophy and a collaborative team approach to achieving Port sustainability, resilience and success. The HRA Director advises the Port Commission and Executive Director on human resources, public records, information technology and administrative matters. This is a 24/7 response obligation position.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field.
At least eight years of experience in human resources management. Municipal
government experience, particularly in Washington State, is preferred.

At least three years of administrative office management experience.
Experience evaluating information technology needs and developing strategies to
address those needs in the public sector.
Familiarity with Washington State public records retention and request requirements is
preferred.
A human resources certification (such as SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) is highly preferred.
Valid Washington Driver’s License or ability to acquire one within 90 Days.

quality work products. An ability to work effectively in teams as both a leader and a
participant.
Moderate business travel is expected/required.
Ability to operate a wide variety of information technology equipment, including various
software programs, as well as the aptitude to learn new and innovative equipment/systems/software.
