The Port of Los Angeles is the nation’s largest container port located 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles in the San Pedro Bay. Port facilities and infrastructure function within an operational area encompassing 7500 acres and 43 miles of waterfront. The Los Angeles Port Police employ 229 public safety staff, of which 140 are sworn 830.1 peace officers. In support of their mission, the Los Angeles Port Police patrol the Port of Los Angeles by land, sea, air and underwater. With a proposed budget of approximately $35 million dedicated to maintaining a safe and secure port environment, Port Police operations enforce federal, state and local public safety statutes in addition to environmental and safety regulations within the Port’s jurisdiction.
