The Port of Brownsville is seeking an outstanding professional to join the leadership team as Deputy Port Director (DPD), Administration. The DPD provides support to the Port Director and CEO by leading planning, research, communications, personnel, property management, and business and trade development initiatives. He or she acts as general supervisor of, and provides leadership for the following departments: Finance, Administrative Services, Real Estate Services, Marketing/Communications, Human Resources/IT Services, and Foreign Trade Zone. He or she directs daily and strategic operations, planning, project management, and finance, and assumes the authority and responsibilities of the Port Director in port operations, decision-making, personnel matters, and coordination of activities in the Port Director’s absence.
Location: Brownsville, TX
Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field.
Required Qualifications and Experience: Five to seven years’ experience (including three years in a senior leadership role) in the following fields including, but not limited to: maritime industry, port operations, financial management, and public administration.
Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including elected officials and the public.
Demonstrated leadership ability and a high level of tact and integrity.
Must possess experience handling sensitive and highly confidential issues and adopting effective courses of action.
Must have strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize competing needs and meet deadlines.
Sound financial and administrative skills.
Exceptional management and leadership skills.
Knowledge of rules, regulations, and policies of ports with a general understanding and familiarity with Port, city, state, and federal laws.
