Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Operations, plans, organizes and directs the programs and personnel of the operations for the Port, including cargo operations, maritime industrial properties management, commercial/recreational properties management, and associated capital improvement programs. Participates in the development and implementation of Port programs, strategic goals and objectives for the enhancement of the Port's commerce; plans, directs and reviews the Port security programs, staff and contracts; combines business and technical acumen to support critical decisions; serves in acting capacity for executive director during absences.
He or she will provide recommendations to deliver the highest quality service possible to our customers and the community.

Company Outline: The Port of Redwood City, located midway between San Francisco and San Jose, is an enterprise department of the City of Redwood City and is governed by an appointed five-member Board of Port Commissioners which meets bi-monthly. It is the only deepwater port in South San Francisco Bay and is strategically located in the growing economic region of Silicon Valley and serves industrial companies with dry bulk and neo-bulk cargoes.
At least 15 years or more of professional experience managing progressively responsible administrative, technical or supervisory experience in the operation and maintenance of large complex maritime facilities and personnel. The ideal candidate will have experience in the following: principles and practices of strategic business planning, practices and methods of maritime trade development, knowledge of state and local laws, regulations and court decisions applicable to port operations, principles and practices of public administration including budgeting, purchasing and maintenance of public records. Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably with a major in foreign trade/commerce, marine transportation, marine engineering, nautical science or closely related discipline.
