Objective of this position is to develop and secure new business resulting in increased annual revenues and increased community awareness of the Port. Responsible for seeking new business opportunities, develop, coordinate and implement plans designed to increase existing business and capture new opportunities. strategic marketing and operations planning. Setting objectives and identifying methods to reach those goals. Must be keenly aware of organizational growth initiatives related to international, national and regional markets.
Summary of Duties
Primary responsibilities of this position include development and monitoring of the Port’s marketing strategies, promotions and community awareness programs. Management of key division areas include: cruise, cargo, real estate, FTZ marketing, client services, community relations, new business and forecasting budget.
A breakdown of duties to be expended on primary goals are as follows:
Business Development – (Primary focus)
Cargo/Cruise/Foreign Trade Zone/Real Estate – Retain and develop new business in all port revenue areas, business retention, negotiate lease/operating agreements for new customers and lease/agreement renewals for existing customers.
Client Services – (On-going)
Tenant Relations – Meet with current port tenants on a regular basis to establish and maintain a positive working relationship and facilitate joint marketing efforts through advertising, trade shows, trips and meetings and organize quarterly tenant gatherings.
Tenant Requests/Customer Service – Research and development for statistical data, PIERS data, and management control for tenant relations.
Economic Development – Keep current tenant and trade data for economic impact analysis and research for the Port.
Events including promoting to groups/guests – Conduct group, visitor tours and general port presentations. Port hosted events to include meetings, luncheons, visiting groups, trade missions and all member organizations.
Community Events – Attend and participate in community events for member organizations as determined by the Executive Director.
Key Areas of Focus
The primary area of focus shall be on new business including, but not limited to, contracting new customers, retaining current customers and working with staff to insure the highest level of service to all internal and external customers.
The ability to identify the potential customer base for new business and performing appropriate research for analysis to assist in the overall basis of establishing a successful marketing plan. Conduct sales calls, meetings and appropriate follow-up. Participation and coordination of major industry trade shows, exhibitions and various events and training seminars.
This position handles a variety of responsibilities related to port business development and community relations. The Port’s mission plan sets the guideline for these areas to be successfully developed and maintained.
Bachelor's degree in business or a related area
At least five years of experience in the establishment of business development and management functions in a governmental setting
Good written and oral communication skills
Must be able to work extended hours
