ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY MARITIME ACADEMY: Established in 1929, California State University Maritime Academy, a campus of the California State University, is the only degree-granting maritime academy on the West Coast. Located on a scenic waterfront site in Vallejo, the campus serves a student population of approximately 1100 undergraduates and 50 graduate students. The campus currently offers undergraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Engineering Technology, Marine Engineering Technology, Marine Transportation, Global and Maritime Studies, and Business Administration. A master's degree in Transportation and Engineering Management is offered as well as a number of extended learning programs and courses.
Position Summary: In an independent capacity and as a direct report to the Associate Vice President of Enterprise Services, the Director of Business Development is part of the Enterprise Services Leadership team focusing on generating new revenue streams as well as growing existing business. The Director will be responsible for establishing new contacts within the Solano and Contra Costa counties, as well as within the CSU community that focus on obtaining services that benefit the Cal Maritime campus. In addition, the Director will be responsible for maintaining relationships already established which benefit the Enterprise Services department and deepens the connection with students, faculty and staff. The position has direct oversight of the Keelhauler Shops, Dining Services and Conferences and Events. In addition, the position interacts with a wide variety of both on and off campus clients to ensure superior service levels.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Build community relations as it relates to Enterprise Services
Develop, coordinate and implement outreach and marketing plans to meet growth objectives.
Develop and cultivate relationships with community members. Attend City of Vallejo Chamber of Commerce committee meetings, approach new prospects for services, maintain existing relationships with vendors, clients and service providers.
Plan, schedule and execute outreach campaigns and events.
Seek out new market insights and business opportunities through research and analysis.
Identify and clarify business development needs and objectives.
Plan, direct and set strategic direction of marketing and business development initiatives.
Direct oversight of the Keelhauler Shops, Food Services and Conference and Events areas.
Ensure excellent customer service to students, faculty and staff while optimizing revenue and operation margin contributions.
Provide functional supervision for the staff working in all areas. Direct reports include the Director of Conferences and Events, Director of Dining Services, and two Bookstore Managers. Approve Absence Management for Food Services staff and all direct reports.

Prepare and administer budgets, monitor revenue and expense activity, track and report progress on success metrics, develop and implement policies, and improve business processes.
Work very closely with business partners across campus to coordinate business operations with student programming.
Identify research and interact with business officials in an effort to expand the Cal Maritime footprint as it relates to Enterprise Services.
Maintain campus records for all leased properties. Responsible for the depository of all transaction records and liaison with other entities within the university structure to coordinate the processes.
Work with academic and non-academic entities that lease, acquire and review acquisition proposals for space outside of the main campus footprint.
Bachelor's degree and five years of progressive responsibility for business development and relationship building
Experience with budget planning, fiscal oversight, and resource allocation.
Excellent negotiation skills, proven track record of successfully building new business.
Ability to increase revenue through generation of leads and partnerships.
Familiarity with Vallejo and surrounding counties.
Familiarity with Cal Maritime and or CSU campus structures and understanding of educational organizations.
Entrepreneurial spirit coupled with the ability to plan strategically.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Experience in personnel management including supervision of staff and employee development.
Ability to write proposals, reports, and make presentations.
Demonstrated ability and interest in working in a multicultural, multiethnic environment.
Leadership Vallejo or similar training.
Advanced degree (MA/MPA/MBA).
