About SUNY Maritime College:
SUNY Maritime College located on a 55-acre scenic waterfront property on the outskirts of New York City on the Throggs Neck peninsula where the East River meets Long Island Sound. Responsible for assisting with all aspects of media and sports information relating to the college's 15 intercollegiate sports: Men's & Women's Cross Country, Football, Men's & Women's Soccer, Women's Volleyball, Men's Basketball, Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving, Men's & Women's Rowing, Baseball, Men's & Women's Lacrosse, and Co-Ed Dinghy & Offshore Sailing teams. The Sports Information Director is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by SUNY Maritime College, all sports affiliated conferences and the NCAA. The job entails regular office hours during the week as well as nights and weekends as needed.
Assistant Sports Information Director(s)
Writing and editing press releases, and game-day programs
Prepare media releases to communicate with the general public news and information about the college's athletics program and teams.
Reporting results to local and regional media
Compiling statistics and records using StatCrew/The Automated Scorebook
Updating the College's athletics website (including historical data)
Develop the use of new media and technology to promote the athletic department.
Broaden current social media platforms and strategies for the department, while creating a larger presence within the social media.
Oversee management of the press box/game table at all on-campus sporting events, or assign coverage of this function.
Supervise, train and oversee sports information staff/game day staff.
Ensure that workers are hired and assigned to cover all game management functions required for each sporting event, such as public address announcer, music, scoreboard, live streaming, and other functions.
Set-up and break down of events.
Take or assign staff to take photographs.
Coordination of special athletic events, including but not limited to the Athletics Awards Show, as well as other events and projects assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Assistant Compliance Officer:
Assist Compliance Officer in maintaining departmental compliance in accordance with all rules and regulations of the institution, Skyline Conference, ECFC Conference, and the NCAA DIII.
Assist in investigating/reporting any rules infractions
Assist in roster management in banner and running academic reports in Argos
Assist in monitoring the status of incoming and outgoing transfer student-athletes
Assist in the certification of continuing eligibility for all student-athletes
Assist in preparing waivers, releases, transfer evaluations and reports for conference or national office.
Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills/Knowledge of AP Style
A strong commitment to the student-athlete concept and a working knowledge of the NCAA Division III rules and regulations
Microsoft Office Skills: Word, Excel, Power Point
Master's Degree in Communications or Sports Management, or related degree
SIDEARM Sport Content Management System Skills
Knowledge of Adobe InDesign/Photoshop
Video Editing Skills
Classification/Salary Range: The Sports Information Director/Assistant Compliance Officer is a UUP position. The anticipated salary range for the position is $42,000 - $46,000 annually, with an outstanding benefits package (for more information please see the UUP Benefit Summary). Special Notes: This is a full-time calendar year appointment UUP Position. Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
